Positive: Spotlessly clean, recently renovated with beautiful decor, lovely bed & bedding. Great shower, good water pressure & plenty of hot water. Spacious accomodation with fantastic facilities such as a utility room with washer & dryer. Fully equipped kitchen with full oven, hob & dishwasher, also had 2 coffee machines & a plethora of crockery & utensils. Relaxing lounge area with great big sliding doors looking into the garden. We saw a young red squirrel on our first day there & a red deer just before we left. Large garden which, although it was private, you shared with the hosts. Access across the road to a more private riverside terrace, which we particularly liked, was wonderful to just listen to the babbling water & watch the water vole come & go to its nearby den. Five minute walk into the town where there are many shops, cafes etc. Open market there twice a week & an interesting terraced walk which gives far reaching views. Plenty of local walks & lots of lovely properties in this beautiful area. Benita & Alain are wonderful, friendly & charming hosts that were very accommodating & I got the impression they would happily engage with their guests if this is what you wanted. We prefer our own space & our host gave us this & just checked in with us a couple of times to see if we needed anything. Generous welcome gifts left for us which we really appreciated & very much enjoyed. One was a regional apple jam that was so delicious we found it in the nearby supermarket & bought 2 more jars. We would never had known about it had it not been kindly left for us. I want to mention a few of the many small touches that really do make a difference. Supplies of cleaning products, even washing detergent, were all there in abundance. Extra towels, coffee pods & filters for the coffee machines, oils & spices for cooking.
Negative: Road noise. Beautiful property but right on a main road with many passing tractors & hay lorries. Couldn't leave windows open overnight as the road noise came right into the bedroom. We found shutting the windows & using the fan on low overnight was helpful. Traffic noise less noticable by the river terrace but still there. Not a detatched property. Adjoining neighbour was renovating the room that links the properties for a couple of days when we were there. Sanding & drilling reverberated through the property. Construction noise. The house opposite had just started having a new roof done when we arrived so that went on for days. Low hanging lampshade over dining table. We kept bumping our head on this everytime we stood up, so we rearranged the table & seating to try & avoid this. However, it was still in the way when approaching the table or walking past it. Perhaps needs raising up or change for ceiling lights.
