We have endeavoured to provide the perfect environment to relax beit enjoying the spectacular panoramic views from the living room, or watching the embers glow in the open fire after a hard days walking the lakes.
Spend the night in the luxurious king size bed and wake up to the peace and idyl that is the essence of the Lake District.
A fully equipped kitchen is available if you decide not to use one of the many and varied local eateries. We also have a small outside terrace for drinking in the fabulous views.

Summary: We used to visit the Lake District regularly in our youth to walk the fells, climb the big peaks and afterwards drink pints of north country beer. But like most people family responsibility came along and not only the distance from where we live in the south became a barrier other delights beckoned. So after a 20+ year gap it was well overdue a return trip so where do you pick. Ambleside is really central to the Lakes as one can get to most of the district from here and we wanted a quiet cottage away from the traffic and the town so what better place than down a narrow road in a stone cottage beside a small river with it's own stepping stones just outside the door. And Riverbank Cottage, Stepping Stones under Loughrigg ticks all those boxes. The pub is less than 1/2 mile away, you can walk into Ambleside in 30 minutes or you can just hangout and watch the walkers/cyclists go by. The cottage comprises a sitting room looking out over the river and fields with a beautiful oak tree in the centre of the view, and modern kitchen with everything you need if you wish to eat in which we actually did most nights (I cooked to give the wife a holiday), the bedroom was comfortable and an ensuite shower/bathroom though small was clean and sufficient. Everything worked well; we had a minor problem one evening with the wifi connection but our host David told me how to sort it out and it was not an lasting problem. So we won't be leaving it another 20 years before coming back and would recommend this little haven to anyone looking for peace and quiet in the beautiful countryside.
