Positive: Samantha and family gave me a very warm welcome including a tour of their jungle garden and even a fresh cacao pod and coffee bean to try. I was shown monkeys, squirrels, agouti, porcupine, bamboo rats, tarantulas and leafcutter ants - all in the garden! The room was a triple with separate lounge and ensuite, so huge and luxurious. Warm water in the shower. Breakfast was traditional Amazon juane and coffee.
Negative: Where the walls meet the ceiling it turns into insect screen, which makes the room fresh yet lacking in privacy. Conversations from another room feel like they are happening in your room. I was the only guest, and when I turned up to no knowledge of my booking it made me feel an intruder in a family home. The hosts were attentive and knocked the door occasionally, which can be positive unless you are an anxious traveller like me. On reflection I prefer the anonymity of larger hostels.
