Just a short drive away is the seaside village of Arnside and along the promenade there is an abundance of boutique shops, restaurants and pubs. From here you can enjoy walking up Arnside Knott, Warton Crag and Gait Barrows. Trowbarrow, a local nature reserve, is located in a disused limestone quarry and has many interesting rock formations, so it’s perfect for climbers. Also close by is Leighton Hall, the ancestral home of the Gillow family, boasting beautiful gardens and Gothic towers. RSPB Leighton Moss is close by and is home to more than 100 bird species.
Silverdale is a perfect base to explore its surrounding areas of the South lakes and Yorkshire Dales. Hop on the train to Grange-over-Sands, a charming, Victorian, seaside town, with a range of shops and cafés. Visit the village of Cartmel, known as the foodie capital of the South Lakes and famous for its sticky toffee pudding.
