A spacious detached village house of character and comfort with a private swimming pool, a stone built pool house equipped for alfresco eating and a delightful rear garden with an outside dining area and gas-fired BBQ (with lid, hob on side and separate plancha that can be put onto the BBQ) on the adjacent terrace. The rear outside dining table is under a mulberry tree which offers some shade, with a large sun umbrella for more shade if needed. Walking distance to three excellent village shops - a baker, butcher and grocer and to two village restaurants. The restaurant in the centre of the village (5 minute walk) has a pretty courtyard for dining in the summer, the restaurant/bar up by the cedar forest, a 10 minute walk, is simpler but very good home cooked food. Situated in the Luberon National Park, Provence.
The house is on one level and has six french doors leading to outside areas. The rooms are bright, light and furnished in neutral colours with lightweight curtains and Provencal touches on the painted wardrobe doors. There are two double bedrooms (160 cm beds) each with their own shower rooms with washbasin and toilets and one double/twin room with en suite bathroom with bath and separate walk-in shower (open plan, doorway but no door between bedroom and bathroom). One of the double bedrooms has steps leading up to a gallery which is not in use (this area is not suitable for young children, a stairgate is available to block off the steps). All bedrooms have french doors and outside access, one to the front and two to the rear of the house. Each bedroom is situated in different parts of the house which gives lots of privacy.
Entering the house you come into a hallway and turn left into the large open-plan living/dining area which leads to a bright, modern kitchen with french doors to the rear dining patio with a teak table and chairs. Dine under the shade of an old mulberry tree. Beyond the living room is a double bedroom with its own ensuite shower room and toilet and doors to its own patio. To the right of the hallway is a short corridor leading to the second bedroom, shower room, separate toilet and a laundry area with washing machine and separate dryer. This area can be separated from the rest of the house by an original wooden door, ensuring privacy if required. The third bedroom is straight ahead beyond the hallway and has a very spacious bathroom.
The swimming pool is in a protected location between the house and a new open-sided pool house furnished with a dining table and 6 chairs, overhead fan, sink and a separate toilet. There’s an open-air shower beside the pool. The chlorine treated pool is 8m x 4 m and 1.20m deep with corner steps and an electric cover. There are comfortable sun loungers and a large sun umbrella when shade is required.
The mediaeval village of Cabrieres D’Avignon is situated on the northern borders of the Luberon National Park. From its sunny south facing slopes it has lovely views across the valley to the Luberon Mountains and the hilltop villages of Oppede Le Vieux, Menerbes and Bonnieux . The Luberon region gained its fame in the 1980s when Peter Mayle published his much acclaimed ‘A Year in Provence’.
The village is a sleepy place with narrow winding steets, honey coloured stone walls, colourful, weathered shutters, fountains, old wash houses and its own mediaeval castle (privately owned). It has a butcher, baker, grocer, library and honey shop! There are two excellent restaurants in the village and a third in fields just outside the village. There are daily Provencal markets all within easy driving distance, an abundance of leisure activities (cyling, walking, canoeing, horse riding) and a summer full of outside concerts and theatre performances. Provence caters wonderfully to families, culture vultures, the active and the gastronomes with excellent and plentiful restaurants and wine domains. You will always leave wishing you had had more time to spend in this historic and scenically stunning region of France.

Summary: My wife, three friends, and I had a wonderful time in this lovely home in the Luberon. The house has ample room for three couples, the living space is nice, and the three bedrooms are well separated. The outdoor spaces are beautiful and the pool most welcome in the summer in Provence. Rosie and Carlo are wonderful, thoughtful hosts. We would be delighted to visit again.
