Summary: This is a truly 'heavenly' place in the quaint and picaresque village of Saignon in Provence. The owner, Etienne, who lives next door, was helpful and charming, and arranged for us to drop our bags at the accommodation before parking a short walk away at the entrance to the village which allows parking for residents only and even then it's where they have room to do so off the narrow streets. He has transformed the three storey building into a perfectly curated, modern, well equipped house. The panorama from the balcony is stunning - we could have stayed there all day taking in the view and the wonderful birdsong all around us. The village has a really good boulangerie/cafe, a gorgeous outdoor bar by the fountain on the square, and two good restaurants. There are more dining options in the town of Apt which is just a 10 minute drive away with a wonderful Saturday market and 2 large Supermarkets. Just to be aware - the stairs in the house are quite steep and for anyone sleeping in the lowest storey bedroom, there are two flights to ascend to the bathroom at night. While there is no washing machine, the Laverie Authentique in Apt is open all day, is self-service and is easy to use. I can still hear the Summer sound of the Swifts chasing around the hilltop village - simply a glorious spot to escape from this world.
