Positive: The location in the Dorsoduro neighborhood is fantastic. The apartment is spacious and has very good traveler amenities, a large refrigerator, a washing machine and dishwasher. The a/c works pretty well which is crucial for summer visits. We were easily able to walk everywhere we wanted to go and it was nice to return to a comfortable cool spot
Negative: There were several things that we wish we’d known before booking. First, there are issues with the hot water. We took some cold showers before we figured out on our own that you have to turn on the sink faucet to get the hot water heater to turn on, and then the warm water would only stay on for a few minutes at a time. Second, the windows are not sealed well and there was a broken shutter in one of the bedrooms and we had a lot of mosquitoes that would make their way in during the night. My nieces were quite eaten up which diminished the enjoyment of our stay. We killed maybe 10-20 on the inside of the apartment and they had new bites every morning. Third, we were told we had to take our trash out on our last day between 6:30 and 8:30 am to a location marked on an info sheet in the apartment, with a possible penalty of $150/bag. I located the spot the day before, set an alarm and walked out onlyto not see a garbage boat. Thankfully I saw another resident walking with trash bags and followed him. As frequent travelers we are used to disposing of our trash at a spot at the building but this added stress to an already busy day. After looking up other Venice stays it does not seem usual to require guests to walk their trash down a street to find a garbage boat. Fourth, the location is close to a gathering spot of young adults and can be quite loud at night. A pair of earplugs did the trick. This is a nice apartment in a great location and I’d stay again if the mosquito issue was solved and I didn’t have to walk bags of trash down the streets.
