3 Bedroom Cottage in Highlands

Hello from Highlands, North Carolina! Nestled in one of the best locations in Highlands, Miss Rebecca's Cottage is secluded in town on 2/3 acre right next to the Sunset Rocks hiking area (a short walk to a beautiful overlook), across the street from Highlands Nature Center (native plant gardens, museum, and lake), and one-third mile from Main Street's famous shopping and dining. Newly renovated and decorated with family heirloom antiques, quality linens, and carefully selected accessories, Miss Rebecca's is an historic cottage that was once an ice house which held blocks of ice from Harris Lake. It was also a caretaker's house and later, an artist's studio. The property was owned by the family of Miss Rebecca Harris since the early 1900's, and included Harvilla, the estate next door which is now a separate property. The lush grounds seclude the cottage from the quiet street but the surrounding grassy, open areas allow lots of light to enter the 24 windows. The main part of the house has been opened into a great room with a wood-burning stone fireplace, well-equipped kitchen, and a two seating areas. The living room/dining room and kitchen are a deep red with off-white trim and feature comfortable seating in sage green with plaid and richly hued florals. The Master Bedroom has queen bed and private bath. A second bedroom with queen shares a bath with a third bedroom having two twin beds. Bedrooms feature restful tones of sage green or peach with furnishings, artwork, and accessories that have been collected over a lifetime. Enjoy TV/DVD, Wi-Fi, telephone, CD player, radio, puzzles, games, books, and magazines. With a total square footage of 1300 feet, Miss Rebecca's is cozy but open and suitable for either a family of six or equally appealing for a couple wanting a private, special occasion getaway. Highlands, at an elevation of 4118', offers a cool summer climate with an average high in July of 77 degrees and an average low of 57. In summer, there are many cultural offerings including theater, music, and outdoor events from which to choose.The fall colors of Leaf Season bring excitement and crowds, especially on weekends; but the quiet evergreen beauty of winter and the gentle unfolding of spring offer a time to enjoy Highlands at a slower pace. Shops and restaurants are open year round and there is a winter/spring theater season as well as summer.
