Positive: Everything comes down to the staff. Extremely friendly, helpful, professional, and very personable. The hotel is characterful. It is not a one-size fits-all hotel. It is unique - both in terms of design and quirkiness. It is a building to be enjoyed. I’m not sure it would suit people looking for a loud, busy stay. It is calm and calming. The breakfast is excellent, the Kantary Bay cafe is outstanding and not expensive. Uncle Nan’s is a first class Italian restaurant. Along the road by the hotel there are several good restaurants, and each evening there are vendors selling street food. Many Thai families come for their evening meal from the vendors, sitting on the promenade, enjoying the sea view and the company. A free hotel bus - a boneshaker - takes you over a small hill to a sister hotel, the Cape, where you can share the quiet beach - 330 metres long. Sun lounges and towels are provided free. Walking to the Cape takes about ten minutes. The Andaman restaurant at the Cape is outstanding.
Negative: The minor issues - eg noisy air conditioning in the older rooms - are far outweighed by the pleasure of staying at the Kantary Bay.
