Positive: The location offered a view overlooking Penedo toward the west. The place we rented was a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen, that had enough stuff to cook, make coffee, store beverages in a regular refrigerador and eat at a table for 4. The bathroom was bright with a pretty blue tile and functional shower. The bedroom was tight, with a double bed and two single beds. Good for a close-knit family, maybe not for others. Every room had a window. Leandro was very comunicative and he and Valeria were attentive. We didn't know we needed to bring towels, but they quickly supplied us with four of them. The stove needed matches to ignite, and they gave us some, plus good directions to places we wanted to go. As the room was on the top of a steep hill, there's 1) a long straight steep staircase one needs to ascend and descend, but also a nice private covered patio with a hammock and great view to enjoy. They made available for us secure garage for our car. It seems like two unrelated families stay in two lower similar spaces. We spent one day hiking at the Parque Nacional de Itatiaia, climbing to 5000 feet. After that, we were too tired to walk to the center.
Negative: I think the arrangement could be made clearer - that you should bring your own towels, that all the sleeping areas are actually in one room and that the place itself is in a neighborhood fairly far from the tourist area. The community is populated by many of the folks that work in the tourist industry, and most walk to and from the downtown. So there are no closeby services. There is bus service, but we didn't use it. We could have walked to a market and restaurants, but they're about 2 miles away, down and up hills, so we used our car.
